Frequently asked questions.

    General

  • Why should I prioritize protein in my diet?

Prioritizing protein in your diet is essential because (1) it helps increase or maintain muscle and bone strength, (2) supports healthy weight management by keeping you fuller for longer, and (3) plays a vital role in maintaining skin elasticity and overall bodily functions. Protein regulates caloric intake to manage body fat, aids in avoiding injury as you age, and is crucial for healthy bones, muscles, skin, hair, nails, and joints. • What is the optimal amount of protein I should be ingesting each day?

We recommend consuming 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight daily, as this range is optimal for maintaining and growing muscle while avoiding excess body fat. Our Chief Science Officer, Peter Attia, Ph.D. notes that current research supports higher protein intake for enhanced muscle growth and overall health. This recommendation exceeds the US Recommended Dietary Allowance, which defines at least 0.4 grams per pound to meet basic nutritional needs. However, the RDA is based on nitrogen balance studies, which underestimate true protein requirements because they do not fully account for all nitrogen losses, leading to a conservative estimate. • Is David only for body-builders?

No. With the optimal blend of protein, minimal calories, and zero sugar, David helps anyone build strength, lose fat, and be beautiful.

  • Can I consume too much protein?

Our Chief Science Director, Peter Attia Ph.D., has noted that the idea of consuming too much protein has never been definitively established. While some people cite studies that cite studies that cite studies, there is no direct evidence proving this claim. There may be an upper limit of protein intake that is safe (e.g., 400 g/day, above which may overly tax the kidneys), but we do not know this for certain. As such, it is quite difficult to make the case that eating 0.8 to 1 g of protein per pound of body weight is anything but beneficial. • What ingredients are used in your protein bars/what is the protein source?

The bars feature a protein blend of milk protein isolate, collagen, whey protein concentrate, and egg white. This protein blend optimizes for both taste and protein bioavailability for muscle protein synthesis and the building of hair/skin/nails. David is sweetened with allulose, stevia, and monk fruit to deliver a delicious taste without any sugar or artificial sweeteners.

  • Does David contain Gluten?

No, David is gluten-free. We test every batch of our product to ensure bars contain less than 10 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is far stricter than the FDA requirement (less than 20ppm to be considered gluten-free. This rigorous testing ensures that our products are safe for those avoiding gluten. While we do not have official gluten-free certification, our commitment to these stringent standards ensures the highest level of safety and quality.

  • Is David suitable for those with dietary restrictions or allergies, and what allergens do bars contain?

Our bars are nut-free and gluten-free, though not certified. They contain milk, soy, and eggs. Please review the ingredient list and consult with your healthcare provider if you have specific allergies or dietary concerns.

  • What is the shelf life of your protein bars, and how should they be stored?

David has a shelf life of 1 year. To maintain freshness and quality, store David at room temperature away from direct sunlight until the Best By date. To extend shelf life further or to maintain optimal taste and texture over time, you can refrigerate or freeze your bars. If chilled, we recommend allowing them to warm to room temperature before eating.

  • How are your bars sweetened? Are these sweeteners safe?

David is sweetened with allulose, stevia, and monk fruit. These are natural sweeteners with zero sugar that do not cause blood glucose spikes. Our bars do not use any artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols.

  • Are David products made with palm oil?

David is committed to using high-quality, responsibly-sourced ingredients in all our products. Bars include RSPO-MB palm kernel oil– a refined, bleached, and deodorized oil that comes from the kernel of the palm tree. It is sourced from suppliers certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (rspo.org), who ensures that the palm oil is sustainably produced and contributes to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity.

  • Is David made with seed oils or gums?

There is no digestible seed oil in David, as it is converted before use in the bar to be indigestible. We use a modified plant fat called EPG. The raw material for EPG prior to its processing is rapeseed-oil. Prior to use in David, the rapeseed oil is converted from a polyunsaturated fat to a saturated fat, and then further treated to become indigestible by humans. There are no gums in our bars.

  • Is David high in fiber?

Our bars are not high in fiber. They are designed to provide high-quality protein with minimal calories and zero sugar, focusing on supporting increased muscle, decreased fat, and beauty.
