Frequently asked questions.

    General

  • Why should I prioritize protein in my diet?

Prioritizing protein in your diet is essential because (1) it helps increase or maintain muscle and bone strength, (2) supports healthy weight management by keeping you fuller for longer, and (3) plays a vital role in maintaining skin elasticity and overall bodily functions. Protein regulates caloric intake to manage body fat, aids in avoiding injury as you age, and is crucial for healthy bones, muscles, skin, hair, nails, and joints. • How many bars can I eat per day?

We recommend using David as a protein supplement in your diet up to 2 bars per day. David should complement a balanced diet to help you consume more protein with fewer calories. Overconsumption of bars may cause adverse GI symptoms.

  • What is the optimal amount of protein I should be ingesting each day?

We recommend consuming 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight daily, as this range is optimal for maintaining and growing muscle while avoiding excess body fat. Our Chief Science Officer, Peter Attia, Ph.D. notes that current research supports higher protein intake for enhanced muscle growth and overall health. This recommendation exceeds the US Recommended Dietary Allowance, which defines at least 0.4 grams per pound to meet basic nutritional needs. However, the RDA is based on nitrogen balance studies, which underestimate true protein requirements because they do not fully account for all nitrogen losses, leading to a conservative estimate. • Is David only for body-builders?

No. With the optimal blend of protein, minimal calories, and zero sugar, David helps anyone build strength, lose fat, and be beautiful. Though, with a perfect 1.0 PDCAAS and industry-leading levels of key amino acids like leucine, David's protein system has been optimized to support muscle protein synthesis.

  • Can I consume too much protein?

Our Chief Science Director, Peter Attia Ph.D., has noted that the idea of consuming too much protein has never been definitively established. While some people cite studies that cite studies that cite studies, there is no direct evidence proving this claim. There may be an upper limit of protein intake that is safe (e.g., 400 g/day, above which may overly tax the kidneys), but we do not know this for certain. As such, it is quite difficult to make the case that eating 0.8 to 1 g of protein per pound of body weight is anything but beneficial. • Can I subscribe to your products?

Yes, David offers subscriptions for all our flavor cartons. Subscribers enjoy a 10% discount on every order and the convenience of a steady supply of their favorite protein bars. For more details, visit our Subscription page or check the additional FAQs in the Subscription section below.

  • Where are your protein bars made?

Our bars are proudly made in a state-of-the-art facility in the United States that adheres to SQF Level 3 standards, the strictest level of Safe Quality Food Institute certification. This ensures that every bar meets our rigorous criteria for taste, nutrition, and safety.

  • Why are your bars more expensive than other bars?

Our bars deliver exceptional value to our customers by offering the highest protein-to-calorie ratio on the market. We are less expensive and more convenient than our closest competitor: boiled cod.

  • Can I buy David in bulk?

David offers wholesale services for businesses. If your business is interested in becoming a wholesale partner, you can apply here.

We do not offer any bulk order pricing for individuals.

You can learn more about our Wholesale program on our Wholesale page or in the Wholesale FAQs below.

  • Is there any difference between the Double Fudge Brownie and the Fudge Brownie?

No, there is no change to the flavor. "Double Fudge Brownie" and "Fudge Brownie" are the same; we have just made a small adjustment to the name.

    Product

  • What ingredients and protein sources are used in your bars?

Our recipe development is guided by taste, but our nutrition standards are firmly guided by science. We adhere to the principle that the health of an ingredient is determined by its effect on the body.

The Protein System combines milk protein isolate, collagen, whey protein concentrate, and egg white to optimize taste, muscle protein synthesis (with a 1.0 PDCAAS), and support for hair, skin, and nails.

The Binding System uses allulose and polydextrose, which have minimal caloric impact and effect on blood sugar.

The Fat System incorporates EPG, a modified plant fat, along with small amounts of coconut oil, cocoa butter, and palm kernel oil (in select flavors) to deliver a rich texture without the typical caloric load of traditional fats.

The Flavor System uses stevia and monk fruit as sweeteners, ensuring no added sugar or blood glucose impact, and natural colors like carmine and pea flower used in some flavors for visual appeal.

For a full list of ingredients, visit our Product Shop pages and click "Nutrition Facts and Ingredients."

  • Does David contain Gluten?

No, David is gluten-free. We test every batch of our product to ensure bars contain less than 10 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is far stricter than the FDA requirement (less than 20ppm to be considered gluten-free). This rigorous testing ensures that our products are safe for those avoiding gluten. While we do not have official gluten-free certification, our commitment to these stringent standards ensures the highest level of safety and quality.

  • Are your bars suitable for people with dietary restrictions or allergies?

David contains allergens of milk, soy, coconut, and eggs. Our Salted Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk flavors contain peanuts. Because all of our products are made in a facility that processes peanuts, sesame, and tree nuts there is a risk of cross-contamination.

Our bars not suitable for most vegetarian or vegan diets given we use bovine collagen. David does not contain any pork products.

Please review the ingredient list and consult with your healthcare provider if you have specific allergies or dietary concerns.

  • What is the shelf life of your protein bars, and how should they be stored?

David has a shelf life of 1 year. To maintain freshness and quality, store David at room temperature away from direct sunlight until the Best By date. To extend shelf life further or to maintain optimal taste and texture over time, you can refrigerate or freeze your bars. If chilled, we recommend allowing them to warm to room temperature before eating.

  • How are your bars sweetened? Are these sweeteners good for me?

David contains 0g of sugar and is sweetened with stevia and monk fruit, which have no calories and do not raise blood glucose levels. Allulose, part of the binding system, also adds sweetness with minimal caloric impact.

  • Is David made with seed oils?

There is no digestible seed oil in David. We do use a modified plant fat called EPG. The raw material for EPG prior to its processing is rapeseed oil. Prior to use in David, the rapeseed oil is converted from a polyunsaturated fat to a saturated fat, and then further handled to become indigestible by humans.

Some David flavors do contain palm kernel oil. This is a saturated fat that comes from the kernel of the oil palm tree. It has a similar fatty acid profile to coconut oil. Our Palm kernel oil is sourced from suppliers certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (rspo.org), which ensures that the fat is sustainably produced and contributes to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity.

  • Is David high in fiber?

Our bars contain 2g of fiber each, so they are not high in fiber. They are designed to provide high-quality protein with minimal calories and zero sugar, focusing on supporting increased muscle, decreased fat, and beauty. While the bars are not high in fiber, the high protein and allulose (a non digestible carbohydrate) have a strong satiating effect.

  • Are your protein bars keto-friendly or suitable for low-carb diets?

Yes. David is designed to be low in carbohydrates, containing only 1-2g of net carbs per bar. This makes them a suitable option for those following keto or low-carb diets.

  • Are your protein bars certified Kosher?

No, David is not certified Kosher. Our bars include collagen derived from bovine sources and use whey protein as part of our Protein System. David does not contain any pork products.
